LIFTING

🔸 They are typically lifted by the ship’s onboard cranes on bulk carriers.
🔸 Weighing 8 to 10 tons themselves, they can lift a net load of up to 15 tons, totaling 25 tons of gross weight.
🔸 In common bulk carriers, the onboard cranes have a capacity of 25 tons when operating with the “grab” and 30 tons when handling other loads.
🔸 It is very important to assess the specific weight of the material being lifted to avoid overloading the crane, as there is a large variation in solids that can be cargo.
